A Good Social Game

Posted on | November 9, 2010 | Comments Off

With the Late Night expansion only weeks away, now might be a good time to ‘bone up’ on the social aspects of gameplay in the Sims 3!

I’ll describe what I believe to be the ‘perfect social game’ with a walkthru from creating your sim and choosing the best traits to the completion of the charisma challenges. Practice the social game and you’ll be ready to pull those all-nighters in November!

The traits for a social sim differ only slightly from those of a lover sim.
Recommended traits for a great social game:

This is my description for a great lover game:

Having Charismatic and Flirty is overkill. Adding Ambitious with Flirty gives the sim boosts in lifetime happiness points.

I also recommend picking an easy dish as your sims favorite food. I always choose waffles since it is available early and easy to make. Choose a basic color as your favorite, something that is found in items without having to constantly use the color wheel. Any music is fine, just make sure your sim plays that type of music often, particularly at parties.

I’m going to play Barnacle Bay since I have not played it yet and it should be more of a challenge for me. When choosing a home, it’s good to start the game as close to town as possible.

I buy the home unfurnished, in order to have around 4000 simoleans to invest in a good bed. This has nothing to do with the social game, but it saves about an hour of sim time per day to sleep on a quality kingsize bed. You also want to buy a painting or two so your sim gets the well decorated moodlet (explained below).

What you choose for a career doesn’t really matter, but you want to choose a career that came with the original game. The Ambitions additions are fine to switch to in the late game, but they are too high maintenance and don’t make any money in the early game. Two good choices for a social game are politician or doctor. In this example, I’ve chosen Musician (theory) mainly because I haven’t played it yet.

Ok now obviously these steps don’t have to be followed precisely and I hope to read some new ideas or recommendations for improvement.

What do you think is the best way to complete charisma level 1? Buy a book from the bookstore and read it, or take a class? …

Reading the first chapter of the book will take from 9 am until 3 pm on your first Sunday. Sunday is a great day to meet sims, particularly in the afternoon. Taking the class only takes AN HOUR! It might cost more, but we started with an unfurnished home to have some money! So spend it and take the class!

The first goal is to complete the Celebrity Challenge. This requires 25 sim acquaintances. To gain an acquaintance, you only need to shake another sim’s hand or say hello. So head for the park and move between the park and town hall and meet sims.

I tend to avoid the attractive sims if possible while completing the Celebrity Challenge, so I can meet them later with a stronger starting relationship.

For each sim you approach, greet with the Friendly introduction, and then tell them one joke from the good sense of humor options if you want to complete the Comedian challenge later.

If you run out of sims, head for the gym, diner or nearest watering hole. Then head back to the park, since some sims prefer to socialize in late afternoon.

When you have met 14 or 15 sims, you should also complete level 2 of charisma. Level 3 requires a friend, so meet a few more sims. When the skill bar approaches lvl 3, it’s time to invite a sim home to make friends with. Use social options that don’t take alot of time, like making a funny face, telling a funny story, gossiping and some of the sense of humor options.

The first couple of days it’s vital that you keep your mood meter high enough to continually accumulate happiness points. Buy a piece of art if necessary for the bedroom, brush your teeth, and make sure you get the moodlet for a full night’s sleep.

On the second day you should wrap up the Celebrity Challenge. Then when you greet someone, your relationship immediately looks like this:

Now that your on a roll, just keep meeting new sims, and target the second goal, which is gaining the Attractive happiness reward.

Once you have both the Celebrity and Attractive status, every sim you meet will begin as friends!

Later goals can include Eye Candy, Never Dull and No Jealousy, depending on whether you are a socialite or a lover of sims.

Enjoy!
